Kenya - Days 5 and 6

One of Kikuyu Baptist church members, George and his wife Jane, work with a program called Mayatima Project. Mayatima Project works with people with HIV helping to get them the medication and support they need. We spent the day Thursday four wheeling through the muddiest roads I’ve ever seen to go visit some of the people that this project supports. We met a 10 year old girl whose parents had both died of AIDS, whose two brothers had died of AIDS, and she was also diagnosed with AIDS. Her entire head and face was covered with puss oozing sores, she was in the late stages of the disease. We went to another house where a grandmother cared for 5 grandchildren by herself because her two daughters had left them behind when they died of AIDS. This grandmother was also HIV positive. When we arrived at the house , a shack in the middle of a field, the grandmother and two older grandchildren were gone doing some weeding to earn some money for the family. Which meant the the three younger children, between the ages of 3 and 6, were left by themselves all day to care for themselves without any food. It was a difficult day to say the least.
