Mississippi College Volunteer Team

For the last two weeks we’ve had an awesome volunteer team come out to join us in some work with the local schools teaching abstinence and how to make good choices. They did assembly’s in three junior high schools, one private high schools and the local police college, taught classes in the high school and as a follow up in a couple of the junior high schools, did youth services at the church, played with the kids, taught Bible studies and played soccer with locals. We were all blessed by the unity of the team and had a lot of fun together. Two of the girls stayed with me and everyone was always hanging out in my house... it’s always exciting to have company when you live alone! And with college students late night movies, card games, and dance parties abounded. And it’s amazing for me to be around American guys who do things like open the door for you, give you their coat when you’re cold, take you’re empty dinner plate to the kitchen, offer to get you drinks, etc. In African culture it’s the opposite - women serve the men meals and the men eat first, women sit on the floor if there aren’t any chairs, men cut in front of you to walk through the door... so I’m not used to gentlmenly behavior and let me tell you it was nice! That’s one thing that will be nice to come back home to (I forget - are guys like that in California too or was it just the Southern charm???)
